The Wayland Revival - Limited Collector's Edition
The Wayland Revival is part of my ongoing body of work, A Liturgy for the Unseen.
Originally created as an oil painting, this work explores the enduring power of collective worship, spiritual resilience, and the sacred traditions that have sustained Black communities across generations. Rather than documenting a specific historical moment, the painting evokes the emotional architecture of the Black revival—the gathering of voices, the lifting of hands, and the shared experience of faith that transcends time.
The figures are intentionally anonymous, allowing them to represent generations rather than individuals. Their raised hands become symbols of surrender, remembrance, hope, and spiritual communion. Set against a restrained palette of deep blues and luminous whites, the painting draws upon the visual language of Old Master painting while presenting a contemporary meditation on devotion, memory, and transcendence. This museum-quality archival canvas edition has been produced in a strictly limited edition of only 30. Each work is individually hand-signed and numbered by the artist and is accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
